The Department of Environment (DoE) reminds the public that the last day for legally catching lobsters in Cayman waters is Tuesday, 28 February.
Persons fishing for lobsters in the coming days should remember the following rules.
o Open season catch limit: Three per person or six per boat per day, whichever is fewer.
o Size limit: Six inch tail, minimum size.
o Only spiny lobster (Panulirus argus) may be taken.
o In any one day, no one person may take or permit another person to take, purchase, receive, offer for sale, exchange or donation, or possess more than three lobsters from Cayman waters.

The Ministry of Culture has decided to extend the public consultation phase for the Draft National Culture & Heritage Policy and Strategic Plan for the Cayman Islands 2017-2026 until 31 January 2017.
This week the Ministry will host a series of district meetings aimed at further informing local residents about the draft policy and strategic plan.

Due to the weather, there is debris on Harbor Drive this morning causing road blockages. It is highly recommended that motorists do not use the waterfront to reach central GT. However, routes exiting central GT are still open. Specifically, Shedden is blocked from Elgin Ave to the waterfront. Only a right turn is allowed off Mary Street at North Church Street. Only a right turn is allowed from Boiler’s Road at waterfront. Only a right turn is allowed from 4th street at waterfront. These closures are in place until further notice. (RCIPS)

Drivers going towards, or coming into town from the eastern districts, and especially residents of the Prospect area, are advised of an overnight road-closure.
The east access to the bypass (off the Dr. Tomlinson/Poindexter Roundabout, leading to the East-West Arterial / Rex Crighton Blvd) will be closed this evening (Thursday, 19 January 2017), from 8p.m. It will reopen by 6a.m tomorrow.

The Department of Environmental Health (DEH) wishes to remind the public that it is that the time of year when the consumption of meat from locally slaughtered animals is at its highest.
Many consumers opt for meat from locally grown animals to create special dishes for the Christmas season; however, the carcasses and portions of all locally slaughtered animals must be examined and passed prior to being consumed. The DEH in conjunction with the Department of Agriculture (DoA) are responsible for carrying out these inspections.

The public is informed that all three offices at the Department of Vehicle and Drivers’ Licensing will close early on Friday, 16 December, 2016, for a staff function. The West Bay and Breakers offices will open at 8.30am, and close at 11.30a.m., while the Crewe Road Office will close at 12 noon.

The Customs Department is offering customers extended hours at its Collections Office ahead of the Christmas Holidays. From Monday 12 December to Thursday 22 December the office, which usually closes at 4pm on weekdays, will operate from 8.30am-5pm. It will also close at 12:30 pm on Saturday 17 December.
