RCIPS Convenes Community Meeting in East End

The RCIPS will be holding a community meeting in East End this Thursday, 11 May, from 7-9PM. The meeting will take place at the East End United Church Hall on Seaview Road (near Brazley’s Bar). The Commissioner of Police, Derek Byrne, and senior staff of the RCIPS will be in attendance to discuss policing issues and community concerns. The meeting is open to the public.

Child Month Logo Competition

Aspiring young graphic designers, ages four-to-18 years old, are invited to enter the Department of Children and Family Services’ (DCFS) Child Month Logo Competition. The contest running now through to Friday, 19 May 2017 is being held to promote the Child Safeguarding Campaign to be used within the Cayman Islands. Two Venues to Collect Voter ID Cards on Saturday, 6 May

To facilitate collection of Voter Registration Cards by registered voters, elections officials will distribute the ID cards from two locations this Saturday, 6 May 2017. The venues and times are: 1) The Elections Office ground floor at Smith Road Centre, Smith Road, 9 am – 4 pm;  2) Foster’s Food Fair – Countryside, 9 am – 3 pm. The new cards replace previously issued voter IDs. Persons picking up their cards should show a valid form of official identification such as a Drivers Licence, Passport or work ID.

CAL to conduct emergency exercise on Little Cayman

Cayman Airways is advising the public, particularly residents in Little Cayman, that the airline will be conducting a full-scale emergency exercise at the Edward Bodden Airfield on Little Cayman on Tuesday April 25, 2017, from approximately 10:45am to 11:30am. The exercise is a requirement of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Cayman Islands (CAACI) for Cayman Airways Express operations on Little Cayman, and will involve a Cayman Airways Express Twin Otter aircraft parked on the Edward Bodden airfield, along with approximately 10 volunteers as passengers, Cayman Airways staff and officials, and Little Cayman emergency services. The Department of Environmental (DEH) is reminding members of the public that littering is illegal and offenders can be prosecuted. Litter is unsightly and often seen in Cayman Islands communities. However, it is often most noticeable on beaches and picnic spots after the Easter holiday campers and other visitors have left.

• Before you leave, check the weather report, learn about security at your camp location, and tell family and friends what your plans are.
• Be sure to bring along a supply kit that includes a first aid kit, compass, map, flashlight, blankets, and batteries, food, clothes, and medications.
• Know who to contact at the camp to report issues that may come up.
• When you return home check for ticks, maiden plum, diarrhea and other problems.

Registration for government schools

The registration for students enrolling in, or transferring to, Government schools for the 2017/2018 school year will open on Monday 3rd April, 2017 and close on Friday 30th June, 2017. Registration for Government Reception is open for qualifying children aged 4 Years 0 months before 1st September 2017. That means a child born between 1st September 2012 and 31st August 2013 is eligible for reception, and that he/she must have already turned 4 prior to 1st September, 2017. Continue reading …
