The RCIPS would like to remind the public of the correct measures to be taken when transferring ownership of vehicles from one person to another. The best practice, according the to the Department of Vehicle and Drivers’ Licensing, is that both parties attend the DVDL together, complete the prescribed form, pay the set fee and receive a new logbook with the new owner’s information. Anyone seeking to drive in Canada (new immigrants as well as returning Canadians who have lived outside their country for some time), must have an official driving record of their time in the Cayman Islands before they will be issued (or re-issued) a Canadian driving license. To get this document locally, the driver must obtain an official letter from the Cayman Islands Department of Vehicle and Drivers’ Licensing (DVDL). The processing period is three working days. The Cayman Islands will celebrate Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II’s official birthday on Saturday, 17 June 2017. A parade by the uniformed services will precede a brief ceremony at the Legislative Assembly recognising past and current recipients of Queen’s Honours. The RCIPS will be holding a community meeting in East End this Thursday, 11 May, from 7-9PM. The meeting will take place at the East End United Church Hall on Seaview Road (near Brazley’s Bar). The Commissioner of Police, Derek Byrne, and senior staff of the RCIPS will be in attendance to discuss policing issues and community concerns. The meeting is open to the public.

Aspiring young graphic designers, ages four-to-18 years old, are invited to enter the Department of Children and Family Services’ (DCFS) Child Month Logo Competition. The contest running now through to Friday, 19 May 2017 is being held to promote the Child Safeguarding Campaign to be used within the Cayman Islands. To facilitate collection of Voter Registration Cards by registered voters, elections officials will distribute the ID cards from two locations this Saturday, 6 May 2017. The venues and times are: 1) The Elections Office ground floor at Smith Road Centre, Smith Road, 9 am – 4 pm; 2) Foster’s Food Fair – Countryside, 9 am – 3 pm. The new cards replace previously issued voter IDs. Persons picking up their cards should show a valid form of official identification such as a Drivers Licence, Passport or work ID.
