Public Meeting for Turtle Conservation Report

A public meeting to discuss a report on turtle conservation in the Cayman Islands will be held at the George Town Town Hall on Thursday, 22 October, at 6pm. The report, conducted at the request of the Department of Environment by the University of Exeter, includes scientific data on the role of the Cayman Turtle Farm in both wild turtle conservation and turtle consumption. For more information on the report or the meeting, email doe@gov.ky

Licensing Forms Account for Animal and Plant Traders

Local persons and businesses that engage in the trade of certain animals and plants, and the product derivatives of animals or plants, will have a quicker process by which to be licensed. The Department of Commerce and Investment (DCI) have amended their trade and business licensing forms to include individuals and businesses that trade in species listed under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna (CITES). Roads restricted due to oil spill reopened

The roads restricted last night due to the oil spill have now been reopened, police say. Last night police reported an oil spill on Sheddon Road in the vicinity of Funky Tangs, along Sound Way and to the Butterfield Roundabout near AL Thompson’s and access to these roads was temporarily limited.

Police say there has been an oil spill on Sheddon Road in the vicinity of Funky Tangs, along Sound Way and to the Butterfield Roundabout near AL Thompson’s. Police and fire are on scene and access to these roads are temporarily limited. NRA is en route to deal with the spill. Motorist are to avoid Shedden Road, Sound Way, New Sound Way (northbound) and the Butterfield Roundabout, or proceed with caution while the spill is being addressed. The RCIPS will inform the public when full access to the roads is available.
